Something that's missing from all of these discussions is that transactions on Apple Pay (and all similar wallets like Google Pay, Samsung Pay etc.) are now just as trackable as those done using the underlying card number.
While the DPAN is unique to a given device, the merchant's payment service provider these days can receive a unique identifier called PAR in the authorization response from the card network. That identifier is consistent across all DPANs for the same card (and aspirationally even across card number changes on the same underlying account).

Social media has evolved over the last year, yet nobody has “share to” links for Mastodon, Bluesky, Threads, etc. There have been a few attempts to create “share to Mastodon” buttons, but they haven’t taken the larger breadth of the new social media landscape into account. So I’ve built a prototype, which I’ve called ShareOpenly. At the bottom of every article on my site, you’ll see a “share to social media” button

The beauty of writing — Jack Vanlightly

#writing | I woke up this morning, sleep deprived after my cat woke me up repeatedly last night and discovered I needed to write something about writing. Perhaps it's because I'm reading "Bird by bird" again by Anne Lamott. So here is another post about writing as a software engineer. I love writing, I love the feel of knowing there's a seed of a story or an idea inside. With some writing projects I know something is there worth telling, but I don't always know enough about it yet to be sure. Sometimes it requires upfront research and sometimes I think I know enough to start writing and see the idea emerge as I type. The piece advances, in fits and starts, as I go back and research gaps, and often discarding the whole thing and rewriting it again... until it has formed itself into something worth while. Then I send it to people for review and I get more ideas and insights making the piece better again.
